"one little word"

faith word journey

I believe that there is great power in the Word of God.  The “one little word” project is an attempt to explore the power of that Word as given to an individual through prayer, bible study and reflection. The question is

who do you want to become in light of who God has called you to be?

You can Google “one little word” and find lots of non –Christian references.  New Year resolutions come and go very quickly, but this project is to allow God to work in your life and for your focus to become His word for you that last an entire year in your life.

“One Little Word” takes its name from the third stanza of Dr. Martin Luther’s most well-known hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”

Though hoards of devils fill the land
All threat’ning to devour us,
We tremble not, unmoved we stand;
They cannot overpower us.
Let this world’s tyrant rage;
In battle we’ll engage!
His might is doomed to fail;
God’s judgment must prevail!
One little word subdues him.

Words like abide, abundance, obey, expect, prayer, surrender, delight, submit and listen can be a very powerful experience as you allow God to guide you in your word.  This happens in your daily life, in prayer, relationships and bible study.

I heard about the "one little word" project a few years ago over at Ali Edwards blog. I immediately thought about what word does God want me to focus on, not what hear others saying. Ali talks about what will you create to help you focus on the word for the year, and I was inspired to create a faith art canvas with my word. My first canvas was "the light."

Adore Him Creations faith art "one little word" canvas project is finding a single word (contained in a bible verse?) that is a catalyst for enriching your life. It is about choosing a word that you can focus on, mediate on, and reflect upon as you go about your daily life. It was a very powerful experience and I treasure the faith art that God allowed me to create. It became really popular with my friends too, as you can see in the slide show. We had a craft day, and about 10 women each created their own faith art "one little word" canvas. Over the past few years, I have helped dozens of women discover their word from God and create a faithart canvas that is reflective of the spiritual walk they are walking with Jesus.

How do you start the thought process for creating a faith art "one little word" canvas?

Want to try this? Think about creating a faith art piece that reflects your current faith walk, or what God is leading you to focus on this year. Can you identify a single word or verse that sums up what God wants for you this year? Maybe you can pray, do bible study and journal and God will reveal the bible verses and thoughts to guide you.  I have created  "One Little Word" PDF  and it is available for free. This will guide you through the process with photos and techniques. click here to go directly to the shopping cart and receive your free download Canvas Faithart One Little Word.

"the light"

The Light represented what I wanted to focus on for an entire year. I spent time in prayer, bible study and reflection thinking about what "the light" meant to me and what I felt God was saying to me. I journaled these thoughts and used the words on my canvas in a variety of mediums.

How do I live "the light"?

  • The amazing light
  • Shine the light
  • Be the light
  • Celebrate the light
  • Happy for the light
  • Rejoice in the light
  • The perfect light
  • Live in the light
  • Teach the light
  • Believe in the light
  • The light journey
  • Treasure the light
  • Growing in the light
  • Cherish the light
  • The light forever and always
  • Freedom, faith and fun in the light
  • Love the light
  • Share the light
  • Discover the light
  • The light adventure
  • The pure light

"obey"

Berna chose the word Obey and wrote the following: "I desire to obey God in all areas of my life without hesitation. I want to honor God with my children, in my work, my relationships, with my family, with my finances, with my words and my actions."

  • Obey his word
  • Willingness to obey God
  • Obey means to AGREE with God
  • Obey is to submit to God
  • Obey is to surrender to God
  • Obey is to have strength, discipline and integrity
  • Obey is to trust God
  • When I obey God my motives are pure
  • Obey is to Glorify God
  • Obey is to focus on God
  • Obey is to comply with God
  • Obey is to believe God
  • Obey is to trust God
  • Obey is to be at peace with God

Verses that support "obey"

Walk in his ways… so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go. 1 Kings 2:3
